Spiritual Awareness & Consciousness

The Relationship Between Awareness and Mediumship

Awareness as the Foundation

Mediumship is fundamentally an expansion of awareness. The medium doesn't gain a supernatural power — they expand their natural consciousness to include perceptions that most people filter out. Understanding this relationship between awareness and mediumship transforms how you approach development.

How Awareness Relates to Perception

Your brain processes millions of bits of information every second but your conscious mind receives only a tiny fraction. Mediumship development essentially widens the filter, allowing more subtle information — including spirit communication — to reach conscious awareness.

This is why meditation is the foundation of all mediumship training. Meditation trains awareness itself — the capacity to notice, observe, and receive. The more aware you become of your inner world, the more you can perceive the subtle impressions that spirit communicates.

Practices That Expand Awareness

Mindful Observation: Spend 5 minutes daily simply observing your surroundings with fresh eyes. Notice textures, sounds, temperatures, and subtle details you normally overlook.

Body Awareness: Regularly scan your body for sensations. This develops the internal awareness needed for clairsentience.

Emotional Awareness: Practice naming your emotions throughout the day. This helps you distinguish your feelings from spirit's emotional impressions.

Energy Awareness: Notice how different environments, people, and activities affect your energy. This develops the sensitivity that supports mediumistic reception.

Dream Awareness: Keep a dream journal and practice recall. Dreams are a gateway to expanded awareness.
